Beifong Lin
While I am extremely happy that Dante Basco has made a return to the show via General Iroh II, I feel that the bigger deal is the display of love and bravery from Lin.
I don’t know if Lin still had romantic feelings for Tenzin, but what I do know is that she genuinely loved him. She sacrificed her greatest strength for him, his family, and the future of Airbending. This makes me think that she wanted them (Tenzin and Lin) to break up to force him to reproduce with an Air Acolyte woman just to be sure that the Airbender lineage and culture are passed on - but that’s just speculation.
What is not speculation is her bravery. She knew what she was doing, she knew she was going to sacrifice a large part of herself to keep Tenzin and his family safe. She was prepared and ready to make that commitment.
While the stubborness and dedication are essential of earth benders, the power and the bravery are perhaps the new qualities of metal benders.
Lin - you are my hero.
From a feminist perspective, she is the best thing since sliced bread. This is what love - romantic or otherwise - looks like. She represents an ideal image that strong women in video games and action movies should be portrayed like.
Move over General Iroh II, Beifong Lin needs her time. Maybe a full week.
